Also, I didn’t connect the two at the time but my chronic abdominal pain from a peptic ulcer went away. It was only after I recently stopped taking the vitamin K2 the MK-7 type that I realize this. More on this in a bit.
So, after seeing the results of the MK-7 type of vitamin K2 I became curious about the MK-4 type. Especially after hearing about a Japanese study showing it was the best and perhaps only form of vitamin K2 to reverse osteoporosis. 1 I thought let’s give it a try. Hey, another effort to exceed a miracle.
I started it and was now taking both the MK-4 and MK-7 types. 45 mgs of the MK-4 (the same amount they used in this study) and 400-600 mcg’s of the MK-7 type. Well at first no difference but bit by bit my low back pain became severe.
That and my sleep started to deteriorate such that I was constantly awakening around 3-4 am and usually unable to get back to sleep. It was as though by taking both forms it was decreasing the effects of optimal dosing and blood levels of vitamin D3.
This resulting in decreasing the Madison-HannaH effects (see this blog post: https://judsonsomerville.com/madison-hannah-effects/ or as I wrote in my book) Those effects of the optimal dose and blood levels of vitamin D3 on normalizing sleep, metabolism and our immune system.
My initial though was it was doing this because vitamin K2 was diverting the vitamin D3 to my skeletal bones.
Thus, less vitamin D3 to activate the Madison-HannaH effects. As this again showed me that if we weren’t so ill the effects of optimal dosing and blood levels of vitamin D3 would not be so significant.
Then in looking for more information in general about vitamin D3 I ran across a Facebook page were a group was discussing how those taking higher doses, 10,000 IUS/day as recommended there (much lower than optimal dosing of vitamin D3) with vitamin K2 (didn’t mention which type) that many were experiencing bone pain.
Those that commented seem to universally attribute it to “bone remineralization”. Some writing they had experienced this pain for over a year. A year!!! Now I don’t know about you and I am really motivated to be in best health I can.
I also understand sometimes we feel worse before we feel better, but I don’t think I would put up with suffering a year of low back pain like I have had for past several months. Yes, I want to improve but, in my experience, it shouldn’t take a year plus with no improvement.
So why did I even put up with my pain for several months? It is simple. I did not initially connect the two. That is, I didn’t connect starting vitamin K2, the MK-4 type at these doses and my back pain. I thought I must have aggravated it. Not that that ever happened before because it had not.
Yes, when I initially fell and injured my back it hurt, but in the ten years since I had not until now ever felt aggravation of that pain. In fact, my back pain quite well controlled until the addition of the vitamin K2 MK-4 type.
I also had recommended the same dosage of the MK-4 type of vitamin K2 I was on to one friend. Because they had osteoporosis issues. A while after adding it they too were having issues. No bone pain but no longer sleeping well and gaining weight.
The same symptoms of reduced vitamin D3. So, I thought an opportunity for an experiment.
So, I advised them to stop as they too were taking both the MK-4 and MK-7 types. Whereas I increased my vitamin D3 dose.
My thinking being that with my increased total vitamin K2 doses I was diverting the vitamin D3.

I can confirm that significant amounts of K2 MK4 or MK7 can create pain in the joints. I have taken 600ug MK7, and after several month, I got pain in my hipp. One week after dropping the MK7, pain was gone. A biologist expert tolds me that K2 modulates the immune system and can create inflammation.
I have also had some pain with 90mg MK4, but not so severe.
I can also confirm that K2 MK7 shortens the sleep. I woke up in the night at 3 to 4 AM. After dropping the MK7, I sleep until 6 AM.
Best regards
