The Optimal Dose: With the Power of Vitamin D3 is a nonfiction health/wellness book written by Judson Somerville, MD. Somerville has been working with patients to help them manage or eliminate pain for over twenty years. His interest in medicine began with his mother’s own approach to vitamins and nutritional supplements. While he was in medical school, he also took advantage of an exchange program to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine. Somerville’s own health issues have been a challenge since his bicycle accident when he was a young intern, an accident which left him a paraplegic.
Vitamin D3 is misunderstood and incorrectly labeled as a vitamin. As Somerville explains, it is a hormone which the body produces from the sun’s rays and the foods one eats. Insufficient amounts of D3 can lead to or aggravate a number of ailments or health issues including obesity, Alzheimer’s Disease and autism. While many do take Vitamin D3, and it’s routinely added to milk in the processing plant, the recommended daily allowance is far below what’s needed by the body and what one would ordinarily get from a day’s outing in the sun. Deficiencies key one’s body into thinking that it’s winter, resulting in a lowered metabolism which can result in lack of energy, depression and weight gain.
I’ve long been intrigued by the benefits of Vitamin D3; however, any books I’ve read on the subject failed to pinpoint the optimal dose needed by your body. I was fascinated by Somerville’s own story about his health issues, and how he’s addressed many of them through his research into the optimal dose, and I found the patient commentaries he shared to be inspiring indeed. The Optimal Dose provided the answers I’ve been looking for about what this potent and vital hormone can do to help restore optimal health. The Optimal Dose: With the Power of Vitamin D3 is most highly recommended.
